Each spring Louisiana GEAR UP hosts its annual Poetry Contest. This year student poets are asked to think ahead to life beyond high school and write about factors involved in their own decision making process about determining what direction their lives might take. This includes a set of prompts for tenth graders designed to encourage introspection, the identification of a mentor, or personal plan. Eleventh graders, more specifically, are asked to explore a factor relevant to their life decisions or discuss the role of the ACT in their personal trajectory.
